There has been a lot of talk about whether or not Barack Obama’s Election was a fair one because of his race. Many people have argued that Barack Obama being black has put him at a disadvantage in the election, while others say it is an advantage. Both there is still the big issue and question did Brack Obama’s race affected his election. There have been many polls taken about this same exact question, I’m not the only one who has been wondering.A poll taken by the Washington Post said that 3 in 10 Americans have racial bias when it came down to the presidential Election. This doesn’t acknowledge the fact that Barack Obama is just as much white as he is black. So how is that just because his skin is black means so much to somebody that they wouldn’t vote for him. Then again you have to consider the fact that Obama is young and appeals more to first time voters as to where John McCain is 72-years-old and Brack Obama is 47-years-old, that is a 25 year difference in age, Wow! This made it so that Obama appealed more to the young, urban, first time voters, unlike John McCain where younger folks would make comments like “He’s too old” or “When they call him on the stage for his inauguration he’ll probably drop dead from his excitement.” Still the question is lingering around what did race have to do with Brack Obama’s election?
Well here’s the finale I believe and many others believe that Barack Obama’s election was affected both positively and negatively by his race because 1) People wanted a change, they didn’t want anything to go down like what the previous president did things. 2) This was something that many Americans have been longing for, an African-American President. 3) Many people didn’t want to see a black democratic take office because they were used to white republicans. 4) People began to compare him to MLK one of the biggest civil rights leaders ever in both the way that he spoke and presented himself. In the end none of this even mattered because Barack Obama was elected president and won by taking 52.9% of the American votes.
